Dear Phyllis, *hugs* thanks for taking the time to get to know us through our stories and leaving a heartfelt comment.
One of my favorite songs came to mind – “Blessings” by Laura Story. Pray that this song will be a blessing to you as it is to me.
May you be blessed with peace, joy, love in the many days to come. <3
Take care,
Amy

I also have tinnitus among other disabilities but will look at them more as a gift as you do. When I get to heaven they will all be gone. You are both a blessing. We also have the Instant Pot Viva 60. Have a blessed year ahead. Love, Phyllis

It started after I heard a very loud bang. Mine is a continuous steam radiator sound that I ignore until I consciously think about it—like now!

Your perspectives and feelings about your lives are wonderful reminders of the power of our minds in creating positive personal outcomes. Thank you for sharing your experiences. PS – yes, tinnitus is a constant irritant. I have several wind chimes that are very helpful in “camouflaging” the high pitched whine, especially when the wind really gets going, hah!

I’m 81 years old and immigrated from Italy to Toronto in 1950. Then in 1960 we got the ok to move to the US. I too have had hearing problems because of high temperature when I was 4 and now I have tinnitus…like the ringing you have plus I have another component on top that sounds like Niagara Falls. It is generally louder than normal speech so I understand how you feel. Only one ear works but requires a strong hearing aid for me to hear. It’s difficult to understand people so I’m more visual than aural.
I feel bad that you have it at your young age.
Rudy

Your love story is very moving. The memories you have shared reminded me of a dear friend I had back in Grammar school.

One of my best friends in 3rd grade Meili, was also from Hong Kong. She was a beautiful girl with a wonderful family. Her mother also had a restaurant and was an amazing cook! She would feed me every time I was there and was the one who taught me how to eat with chopsticks and from a bowl.

I recognized some of the problems you two experienced in Meili. She had briefly lived in New York upon migration but they moved south due to the horrible crime which plagued the city in the 70’s . I was so glad when she arrived. She was the only Asian in our entire school, except for her younger brother. Which triggers another story but I want to quickly add that she took to English like a fish to water. We should have known she would!

Everyone talks about how there is so much racism in the south. Though I attended a school with one black family and one Asian family, we were anything but racist. The other thing is that our classes stuck together for every grade. For this reason, we knew everyone in our grade. We were the same kids moving up time and again, so when Meili arrived, EVERYONE wanted to be her friend. The same went with Robin, who also joined our class.

She was sweet—not to mention gorgeous—and she ended up graduating as the class Valedictorian. Sadly, I ended up moving to Texas for high school, but we were still in touch then. However, that was many years ago and many states ago, as well.

I truly wish you and your family well. I’ll be following from now on.

Have a beautiful day!
